CSOs contribution to the development of the health sector in the country for more than 20 years recognized during the 2019 policy meeting
CSOs have been in the front line in the development of the health sector in the country. This has been through different initiatives that CSO have been undertaking at both central and local level of the government. At the central level, CSOs have channeled their contribution through policy forum members, whereas, Sikika was entrusted to represent other CSOs for more than 20 years now.
At the central government level, through various platforms, Sikika has contributed to the preparation of main strategies and plans such as the Health Sector Strategic Plans II-IV, the Human Resources for Health Strategic Plan, the Improvement of Health Commodities Plan, and the Health Financing Strategy. Further, the CSOs' contribution at this level has also been through the preparation and reading of a joint CSOs policy statement, which normally does include different challenges that CSOs have picked in the provision of health services. These statements have contributed to the sharpening of health policy priorities, budget, and promoted the engagement of citizens’ voices in the development of the sector.
